June is national crime reading month and Southend libraries are hosting an afternoon of crime.

Behind the Covers of Crime accompanied by a pair of cartoon handcuffs.

‘Behind the covers of crime’ is a special event with a panel of Essex-based crime writers, Michael Heath, Julia Stone, Rosie Sandler and David Evans.

The authors will be taking guests through a discussion about their books, explaining the basics of writing in various genres as well as exploring techniques and challenges around creating stories.

The event will be held on Friday 16 June, between 3pm and 4:30pm at The Forum, Elmer Square. The event is FREE to attend, bookings are now open at Eventbrite.

If you love crime reading and want to take some new titles home with you, there will be an opportunity to purchase the books at the event.

Cllr Derek Jarvis, cabinet member for arts, culture, heritage and leisure, said: “We love when reading enthusiasts and aspiring authors get together, exploring diverse ways of writing books that allow you to immerse yourself in a completely different world. What better way to do this than with local authors, who have experience of writing and publishing.

“So whether you are a bookworm, or an author to be, I encourage you to take this opportunity to learn from the professionals and explore your inner writer.”
