Chalkwell beach: Suspected ordnance found

BOMB disposal experts are currently at Chalkwell beach as suspected ordnance has been found.

Families are facing disruption to their Sunday walk and Coastguard and community safety officers are keeping the public safe.

A spokesperson for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: “The Southend Coastguard Rescue Team attended Westcliffe-on-Sea yesterday (December 26) following a 999 call at around 2.45pm reporting a sighting of a possible ordnance.

“The MOD’s EOD team were informed, and they are in attendance this afternoon with the Southend CRT to investigate further.”
